| HWA Letter 18 January 1934 to elder John Kiesz | Mr Armstrong wrote that "there was a certain elder living in adultery by having two living wives, contrary to the qualifications for an elder ..." (p. 2). This demonstrates that he believed that one could not get remarried while one's former spouse was still alive. That was commong Church of God (Seventh Day) belief at that time. |

NB: In addition to the various booklets and statements about D&R, the Church also published instructions to the ministry which can be found in the Ministerial Letters. Eg:
1 March 1968, p. 3.
10 April 1968 - be careful in D&R situations lest the Church by sued (pp. 2-3).
27 August 1968 - The ministerial conference in January discussed D&R. Refer to bottom of page 2 and top of page 3 which discusses a slightly changed policy.
27 January 1970 - how to or not to discuss D&R policy on first visits (p. 3).
